Former Hamilton County Deputy Indicted for Sexual Assault
A chilling case of on-duty abuse has rocked the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Former Deputy Sheriff Willie Greer, 33, is facing federal charges for sexually assaulting a woman on January 5, 2014, while he was still in uniform.
According to prosecutors, Greer violated the victim’s constitutional due process rights to bodily integrity, among other crimes. He faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of not more than $250,000 if convicted.
The indictment, handed down by a federal grand jury in Chattanooga, Tennessee, charges Greer with civil rights violation, kidnapping, carrying a firearm during and in relation to the sexual assault, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of the crime.
The investigation into Greer’s crimes was a collaborative effort between the FBI and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney James Brooks of the Eastern District of Tennessee and Civil Rights Division Trial Attorney Saeed Mody are leading the prosecution.
Greer, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty, is facing a long and difficult road ahead. The indictment serves as a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence of guilt.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the duty of law enforcement officers to protect and serve, not exploit and harm. As the trial unfolds, the community will be watching closely to see justice served.
