Bridgeport Man Sentenced to 39 Months for Meth Distribution

A 36-year-old Bridgeport man has been sentenced to 39 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine, officials announced today.

Derek Coulson was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, methamphetamine.

According to court documents and statements made in court, in January and February 2021, Coulson sold a total of more than 80 grams of methamphetamine to an undercover law enforcement officer.

Coulson was arrested on June 11, 2021, and on October 8, 2021, he pleaded guilty to the charges.

At the conclusion of today’s court proceeding, Coulson, who was released on bond, was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.

This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration New Haven Task Force, which includes participants from the U.S. Marshals Service, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, Connecticut State Police and the New Haven, Hamden, West Haven, North Haven, East Haven, Branford, Ansonia, Meriden, Derby, Middletown, Naugatuck and Waterbury Police Departments.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan Keefe. Coulson’s exact sentence is 39 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing methamphetamine.
