West Haven Man Charged in Cocaine, Fentanyl Distribution Case
LEVERN MARION, 35, of West Haven, Connecticut, was slapped with a federal indictment for his alleged role in distributing massive quantities of cocaine and fentanyl in the New Haven area.
According to the indictment, Marion possessed with intent to distribute at least 500 grams of cocaine and a quantity of fentanyl. The indictment was returned on May 1, 2024, by a federal grand jury in Hartford.
Marion appeared in New Haven federal court today and pleaded not guilty to the charge. The 35-year-old has been detained since his arrest on March 27, 2024.
A court-authorized search of a New Haven residence connected to Marion revealed a staggering 800 grams of cocaine, 260 grams of crack cocaine, and numerous wax folds containing fentanyl. If convicted, Marion faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years and a maximum term of 40 years.
U.S. Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. ‘Charges are only allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,’ she said.
The investigation, led by the DEA New Haven Task Force and the New Haven Police Department, involved surveillance, trash pulls, and traffic stops. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. Keefe.
The DEA New Haven Task Force includes participants from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, Connecticut State Police, and several local police departments.
