Derrick Dwayne Myers, a 46-year-old man from Martinsburg, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 150 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Myers was selling controlled substances from a motel in Martinsburg. Investigators searched several rooms at the motel and Myers’s vehicle and located fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, eutylone, and cash.
The investigation, which was conducted by the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, has led to a significant blow to the local narcotics trade. Myers will serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher on behalf of the government.
U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case, handing down the sentence that will keep Myers behind bars for over 12 years.
The fentanyl epidemic has ravaged communities across the country, and law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to crack down on those responsible for flooding the streets with deadly substances. In this case, Myers’s conviction sends a strong message that those who engage in fentanyl trafficking will be held accountable for their actions.
The Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force has been credited with making significant strides in combating the opioid crisis in the region, and this conviction is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the task force members.
