Sioux Falls Man Sentenced for Involvement in Meth Conspiracy

A South Dakota man has been sentenced to 176 months in federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine conspiracy.

Det Khaoon, 38, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on July 19, 2022.

According to court documents, Khaoon was involved in trafficking 43 pounds of methamphetamine and 80 grams of fentanyl. The conspiracy allegedly began on an unknown date and continued until July 7, 2021.

Khaoon was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 7, 2021, and pled guilty to the charges on March 31, 2022.

The case was investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Hodges prosecuted the case.

Khaoon was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. He was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The exact charges against Khaoon were conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, which carries a penalty of not less than 10 years in prison and up to life imprisonment. The total amount of methamphetamine involved in the conspiracy was 500 grams or more, a Schedule II controlled substance.
