HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In a gritty plea deal, 35-year-old Darelle Devon Boynton of Detroit has admitted to selling heroin and being caught with a firearm despite his previous convictions, according to United States Attorney Mike Stuart.
Boynton’s transgressions began on January 23, 2020, when he sold 1.75 grams of heroin for $100 to an informant. Just over a week later, on January 30, he was caught selling another 8.47 grams at 2005 10th Ave. in Huntington.
On February 13, police found 35.13 grams of heroin in his Huntington home, along with a Glock Model 19, 9mm pistol. This discovery came after Boynton had already been flagged for being a convicted felon—a label that makes him legally barred from possessing firearms. His prior offenses included armed robbery and fleeing from police.
Boynton’s actions are part of Operation Synthetic Opioid Surge (S.O.S.) and Project Safe Neighborhoods, which targets violent crime and the illegal drug trade. S.O.S. aims to cut down on the supply of synthetic opioids in high-impact areas. The PSN program is a cornerstone of the Department of Justice’s efforts to reduce violent crime, fostering community partnerships for sustained crime reduction.
Despite his guilty plea, Boynton remains in legal trouble, facing up to 30 years in prison at his November 30 sentencing. His case has been handled by Assistant United States Attorney Greg McVey and will be presided over by Judge Robert C. Chambers of the Southern District of West Virginia.
