Devon Lamont Johnson Pleads Guilty to Fentanyl Trafficking
A devastating crime has shaken the streets of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, as 36-year-old Devon Lamont Johnson pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl. United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced the guilty plea today, which has left many in the community reeling.
According to court documents, Johnson’s crimes were uncovered after a controlled purchase of fentanyl was made from him. Allegheny County detectives subsequently executed a search warrant for a McKees Rocks residence from which Johnson was selling fentanyl. The search revealed distribution quantities of fentanyl consistent with the drugs Johnson had sold during the controlled purchase.
Johnson’s guilty plea comes as no surprise, given his troubled past. Court documents reveal that he has two prior drug trafficking convictions, including one for distribution of heroin in the federal court in the Northern District of Western Virginia. This history of crime has left many wondering how Johnson was able to continue his illicit activities for so long.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan T. Conway is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government, with the Allegheny County Police conducting the investigation that led to the prosecution of Johnson. Judge Mark R. Hornak has scheduled sentencing for September 11, 2024.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 30 years in prison, a fine of $2 million, or both. Under the federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant. Johnson’s sentence will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion in the days to come.
The guilty plea of Devon Lamont Johnson serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of fentanyl trafficking on our communities. As the Grimy Times continues to report on this story, we will provide updates on Johnson’s sentencing and any further developments in this case.
In the meantime, we urge residents of McKees Rocks and surrounding areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Together, we can work towards a safer and more just community for all.
