A Pittsburgh man, Brandon L. Johnson, 32, has pleaded guilty to a charge of violating federal narcotics laws. Johnson, a resident of Beechview, pleaded guilty to one count in federal court before United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak.
According to court documents, Johnson conspired with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute heroin in November 2011. The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney David J. Hickton.
Johnson faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine of $2,000,000, or both. The actual sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation that led to Johnson’s prosecution.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 13, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. before Judge Hornak.
Johnson’s guilty plea marks a significant blow to the narcotics trade in Pittsburgh. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and related crimes.
