Dewey Sims, 34, Sentenced to 5 Months for Possessing Prohibited Objects in Scranton Prison
SCRANTON, PA – In a shocking display of disregard for the law, Dewey Sims, a 34-year-old inmate at FCI-Schuylkill, has been sentenced to five months in prison for possessing prohibited objects, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The court heard that Sims previously pleaded guilty to possessing quantities of oxycodone hydrochloride, a Schedule II controlled substance, and suboxone, a Schedule III controlled substance. Both items are strictly prohibited for federal inmates.
United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam commented on the case, stating that Sims’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the rules and regulations in place to maintain order in the prison system.
The investigation was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, with Assistant United States Attorney James Buchanan handling the prosecution.
The sentence will run consecutive to the sentence Sims is currently serving, meaning he will have to spend a total of at least five months behind bars.
The court’s decision sends a strong message that those who break the law, even behind bars, will be held accountable for their actions.
