Two District men faced the chilling reality of long sentences this week after being convicted for a 2021 Southeast Washington, D.C. murder. Delonta Stevenson, 29, and Vorreze Thomas Jr., 26, were handed down severe penalties by D.C. Superior Court Judge Marisa J. Demeo.
Stevenson was hit with an 85-year sentence for his role in the January 18, 2021, shooting of Terrance Allen, who died after being struck by thirty-four shots fired from a rifle. Thomas Jr., who was found guilty under an aiding and abetting theory, received a 53-year term.
The tragedy unfolded when Stevenson and Thomas intercepted Mr. Allen’s vehicle as it left the Stanton Glen Apartments. In a violent confrontation, Stevenson unleashed his weapon, shooting into the back of the car where Mr. Allen was seated. The attack was not aimed at Mr. Allen but at another man in the car with him, with whom they had a dispute.
After the shooting, the two fugitives attempted to flee the scene but were thwarted by an MPD officer who gave chase. Their vehicle crashed and they fled on foot before being captured and arrested later that month.
In announcing the sentences, U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department commended the work of the investigators and prosecution team who brought the case to justice. They also highlighted the contributions of various agencies involved in the investigation, including the U.S. Marshals Service and Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jack Korba, Miles Janssen, and Zach Horton were recognized for their efforts in investigating and prosecuting the case.
