DOJ Lands in Oklahoma, Awards $500k to Four Cities

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma, Mark A. Yancey, and the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Brian J. Kuester, have announced that the Department of Justice has awarded more than $500,000 to four Oklahoma cities to enhance law enforcement.

The recipients of these funds are the Dewar Police Department, Lindsay Police Department, City of Sallisaw, and the Shawnee Police Department. The total amount awarded to these cities is $69,208, $99,428, $95,569, and $250,000, respectively.

These funds will enable Dewar, Lindsay, and Sallisaw to hire one additional police officer each. Shawnee will be able to hire two additional officers.

The grants are part of more than $98 million awarded to 179 law enforcement agencies across the United States through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, also known as “COPS.” These funds will support hiring 802 additional full-time law enforcement officers.

The funds awarded to the cities in Oklahoma will go towards community policing efforts, with a focus on building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to supporting law enforcement agencies in their efforts to enhance public safety and build trust with the communities they serve.
