Boston – A Dominican man named Julio Pimentel-German, 31, has pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston for unlawful reentry into the United States after being deported. The plea came as a result of his prior drug-related convictions.
Pimentel-German was initially removed from the country on June 1, 2021, but he returned to the US illegally and was apprehended following his arrest in July 2022 for drug offenses. His illegal return to America has led to new charges that he now faces.
In Essex Superior Court, Pimentel-German was convicted on September 28, 2023, of possession to distribute fentanyl, trafficking fentanyl, and possession of a firearm without a permit, among other serious charges. He is scheduled for sentencing before U.S. District Court Judge Julia E. Kobick on Sept. 24, 2024.
The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien carries potential penalties of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and applicable statutes.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Todd Lyons, Field Office Director for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Boston, announced the guilty plea. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian J. Sullivan of the Major Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution of this case, with valuable assistance from the Massachusetts Department of Corrections.
