PHILADELPHIA – In a stunning reversal of fortune, Ramon Ramirez-Frias, the Dominican national also known as ‘Willy Ramirez-Frias’ and ‘Mollo,’ was sentenced by United States District Judge Kai N. Scott to nine months in prison for the crime of illegal reentry into the United States. Upon completion of his sentence, Ramirez-Frias will once again be removed from the country.
This sentencing comes after Ramirez-Frias, aged 40 and residing in Philadelphia, was initially processed for voluntary removal following his arrest by the U.S. Border Patrol in Puerto Rico back in April 2004. The defendant’s return to the United States, this time in violation of his deportation order, led to his latest trouble.
RAMIREZ-FRIAS’ RECKLESS RETURN
In April 2022, Ramirez-Frias was apprehended by the FBI Philadelphia on federal drug charges. His criminal activities reached a climax in February 2023 when he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and two counts of possession with intent to distribute heroin. He faced immediate removal from the United States in November 2023 following an immigration judge’s order.
However, this was not Ramirez-Frias’ first illegal act. In February of this year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI were notified that Ramirez-Frias had returned to the U.S. illegally. He was tracked down, indicted in March, and pleaded guilty to illegal reentry in April.
This case is a significant part of Operation Take Back America, a national effort aimed at combating illegal immigration and eliminating transnational criminal organizations. The operation leverages resources from the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). Ramirez-Frias’ sentence is a testament to the ongoing fight against such criminal elements.
Investigation into Ramirez-Frias’ case was led by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, with assistance from the FBI. The prosecution was carried out by Assistant United States Attorney S. Chandler Harris. It’s another hard-fought victory in the battle against illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
