Meth Trafficking Lands Man in Prison
A 42-year-old Lake Andes man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson.
Michael Todd Andrews was sentenced on July 21, 2014, by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier to 120 months in custody, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Andrews was convicted of Distribution of a Controlled Substance after he sold methamphetamine to a confidential source working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Lake Andes in January 2013.
The case was investigated by the FBI, Bureau of Indian Affairs, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wagner Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer D. Mammenga prosecuting the case.
Andrews was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
The conviction and sentencing of Andrews serves as a reminder of the consequences of drug trafficking in our community.
U.S. Attorney Johnson praised the collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies in bringing Andrews to justice, saying ‘the dedication and hard work of the investigators and prosecutors in this case is a testament to their commitment to keeping our communities safe.’
Andrews’ guilty plea was entered on April 28, 2014, after he was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 3, 2013.
