Kelly Moore, Conspiracy to Distribute Meth, South Dakota 2016

United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler dropped a bombshell on November 10, 2016, revealing the sentencing of Kelly Moore for his heinous crime. The Kenel, South Dakota, native was handed down a 92-month sentence followed by 3 years of supervised release, a $1,000 fine, and a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Moore, aged 39, admitted his guilt on August 22, 2016, after being indicted by a federal grand jury on December 8, 2015. The charge? Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance and Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.

The trail of destruction began when Bureau of Indian Affairs police executed a search warrant at Moore’s residence on July 22, 2015. What they found was chilling: two firearms, ammunition, prescription pills, drug packaging material, scales, drug paraphernalia, and five small baggies, four containing Methamphetamine. The final straw was the 350 grams of Methamphetamine Moore confessed to selling across the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley handled the prosecution with a铁 fist, securing the conviction. Now, Moore faces the harsh reality of serving his sentence, which begins immediately in Bureau of Prisons custody.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the relentless effort by federal authorities to combat drug trafficking on tribal lands. The Kenel man’s fall from grace is one more chapter in the grim saga of methamphetamine distribution that plagues our communities.
