Dominican Republic Native Sentenced to 10 Years for Fentanyl Distribution
HARRISBURG – A Dominican Republic native has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for his role in distributing fentanyl and illegally reentering the country.
Anthony Rodriguez-Ortiz, 36, was found guilty of distributing fentanyl and reentering the country after being previously deported. He will face deportation once again following his prison term.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Rodriguez-Ortiz was previously deported from the United States in 2013. He illegally reentered the country sometime after December 2013 and was found in York County, Pennsylvania, after evading immigration officers.
Investigators from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) made two separate purchases of fentanyl from Rodriguez-Ortiz before obtaining a search warrant for his residence. The search revealed several bundles of fentanyl, $ thousands in cash, packaging material, multiple cell phones, packaged pills, edibles, and multiple firearms, including some with obliterated serial numbers.
At the time of the fentanyl sales and Rodriguez-Ortiz’s arrest, he was using an alias.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
U.S. District Court Judge Jennifer P. Wilson handed down the 10-year sentence, citing Rodriguez-Ortiz’s egregious crimes.
Rodriguez-Ortiz will be deported once again following his prison term, marking the second time he has been deported from the country.
The case was investigated by HSI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ravi Romel Sharma.
This case is part of a larger effort to combat fentanyl trafficking and reduce violent crime in the region.
