A Cedar Rapids man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography, federal authorities announced.
Donald Etheredge, 51, of Cedar Rapids, was sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment on June 20, 2017, after pleading guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography, a crime he committed between 2013 and 2015.
Etheredge, who was also convicted of shipping and transportation of child pornography in the Northern District of Iowa in 2004, was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge Linda R. Reade. A special assessment of $100 was imposed, and Etheredge must also serve a 20-year term of supervised release.
He must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements, authorities said.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The initiative, which is led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
