Ocala Resident Indicted for Access Device Fraud
Ocala, Florida – A Chinese national has been charged with access device fraud in a federal indictment unsealed on [date]. Donghui Liao (32, China) is accused of possessing counterfeit retail and credit card gift cards.
According to the indictment, on October 17, 2023, Liao knowingly and with intent to defraud possessed 15 or more counterfeit and unauthorized access devices, including retail and credit card gift cards.
US Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced the return of the indictment, charging Liao with possession of 15 or more counterfeit or unauthorized access devices. If convicted, Liao faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.
The indictment is merely a formal charge, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. This case was investigated by the Ocala Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations.
Assistant US Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg will be prosecuting the case.
