Tampa Man Charged with Sex Trafficking a Minor
Tampa, FL – In a disturbing case of human exploitation, 39-year-old Dontae Burton has been indicted for sex trafficking of a minor. According to court documents, Burton allegedly coordinated commercial sex acts on behalf of a minor victim after posting photographs of her on adult escort websites. This despicable act has left many in the community shaken.
According to the indictment, Burton told the minor victim how the dates worked and the portion of money that he would receive from the dates. Burton also transported the minor victim for the dates and received proceeds from her commercial sexual activity. The indictment alleges that Burton’s actions were a clear violation of the victim’s rights and dignity.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted a thorough investigation into Burton’s activities, gathering evidence that led to the indictment. Assistant United States Attorney Courtney Derry will be prosecuting the case.
The indictment is a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty. If convicted, Burton faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.
