Donte Calhoun, Cocaine Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2023

Convicted Cocaine Trafficker Sentenced to Prison

In a major blow to the city’s narcotics trade, a former New Castle resident has been sentenced to prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking operation.

Donte Calhoun, 32, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on two indictments for violating federal drug trafficking laws. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

According to court documents, Calhoun was involved in the delivery of approximately 27 grams of cocaine to a confidential informant in August 2018. The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, also uncovered evidence of Calhoun’s involvement in discussions with a member of a drug trafficking organization.

Assistant United States Attorneys Brendan T. Conway and Maureen Sheehan-Balchon prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung commended the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their work leading to Calhoun’s prosecution.

The prosecution is the result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation, which targets high-level drug traffickers and their organizations. OCDETF uses a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven approach to disrupt and dismantle criminal networks.

In addition to his prison sentence, Calhoun will be placed on supervised release for a term of six years upon his release from imprisonment.

The sentencing marks a significant victory in the fight against cocaine trafficking in Pennsylvania. It is a reminder that those involved in the narcotics trade will be held accountable for their actions.
