Dontrell Mathews, Methamphetamine Distribution, Louisiana 2018

Dontrell Mathews, 42, a Thibodaux resident, has pled guilty to distributing a quantity of methamphetamine in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C). Mathews appeared before U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to enter his plea.

According to court documents, on July 31, 2018, Special Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration used a confidential source to make a controlled purchase of approximately 27 grams of methamphetamine from Mathews. This transaction was a result of an extensive investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), a joint federal, state, and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking.

Mathews faces up to a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty years, a fine of up to $1,000,000.00, and at least three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Additionally, Mathews must pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney André Jones. This case is part of an ongoing effort to disrupt and dismantle major drug trafficking organizations.

Mathews’ plea is a significant blow to the local drug trade. The federal Drug Enforcement Administration, Office of Homeland Security Investigations, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office all contributed to the investigation.
