Crime Pays Out: Minnesota Woman’s Scheme Exposed
MINNEAPOLIS – A shocking tale of deception has unfolded in federal court in St. Paul, as a 38-year-old woman pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining more than $29,000 in Social Security benefits. Dora White, who is currently incarcerated at the Shakopee Women’s Prison, has admitted to the egregious crime.
According to court documents, White, who was charged on December 27, 2012, entered her plea before United States District Court Judge Richard H. Kyle. As part of her plea agreement, White confessed to receiving $29,755.30 in Social Security benefit payments on behalf of her daughter between May 2007 and January 2011.
In a stunning twist, White became the representative payee for her daughter in August 2005, only to falsely attest in subsequent accounting reports that her daughter resided with her and that the funds were being used for her daughter’s care. However, in April 2007, the daughter was placed in foster care, rendering White’s claims utterly false.
For her crime, White faces a potential maximum penalty of ten years in federal prison. Judge Kyle will determine her sentence at a future hearing, not yet scheduled. This case is the result of an investigation by the Social Security Administration’s Office of Inspector General. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David P. Steinkamp.
The brazen scheme has left many questioning how such a large sum of money was able to be fraudulently obtained without being detected for so long. White’s actions have not only caused financial harm but also raised concerns about the integrity of the Social Security system.
As the investigation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: Dora White’s actions will not go unpunished. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
