Dorian Hayden, Meth & Heroin Trafficking, Indianapolis IN, 2022

INDIANAPOLIS – A 26-year-old Indianapolis man is facing over a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to trafficking methamphetamine and heroin. Dorian Hayden received a 150-month federal sentence after a raid on his Baneberry Lane apartment uncovered a significant drug operation, authorities announced Tuesday.

The bust began February 13, 2020, when Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers, acting on a tip that Hayden was a drug trafficker, attempted to serve a search warrant at his residence. Hayden, however, spotted the officers and made a run for it, driving away in a vehicle. A traffic stop quickly followed, revealing a suspended driver’s license and, more damningly, two loaded Glock handguns stuffed into his pants pocket. A key to his apartment was also seized.

The subsequent search of Hayden’s apartment yielded a substantial haul: 1.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, 49.64 grams of heroin, cutting agents, multiple digital scales, and a staggering $38,468 in U.S. currency. Investigators also discovered two metal industrial presses, a digital money counter, and yet another loaded semiautomatic pistol. The operation wasn’t a hobby; Hayden admitted in his plea that he intended to distribute the drugs for profit.

“This case exemplifies the dangers posed by drug trafficking and the commitment of federal, state, and local law enforcement to dismantle these criminal networks,” stated U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the IMPD.

Daryl S. McCormick, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF’s Columbus Field Division, highlighted the significance of interagency cooperation. “The success of this case is a direct result of the dedication and collaboration of all involved agencies,” he said. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle P. Brady and falls under the umbrella of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a multi-agency initiative targeting high-level drug traffickers.

U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker handed down the sentence, ordering Hayden to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. The investigation underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Indianapolis and the resources dedicated to bringing perpetrators to justice. The street value of the seized drugs has not been released, but authorities suggest it would be substantial.
