Pittsburgh Felon Charged with Crack Cocaine and Gun

A former resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been charged with violating federal drug and firearms laws. Dorian Montgomery, age 42, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on three counts of drug and firearms charges.

According to the indictment, on or about July 12, 2019, Montgomery possessed with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. Montgomery, a convicted felon, also possessed a firearm in furtherance of the drug trafficking crime.

A convicted felon is prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm. The indictment states that Montgomery’s actions are punishable under 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1)(A), which prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year from possessing a firearm.

The law provides for a maximum sentence of not less than 5 years and up to life in prison, a fine of $8,000,000, or both, for the narcotics charges; and not less than 5 years and up to life in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both, for the firearms charges.

Assistant United States Attorney Brian M. Czarnecki is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The investigation was conducted by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
