Adean Wells, Filing False Individual Income Tax Returns, Maryland 2006

Adean Wells, a retired federal employee from Silver Spring, Md., has pleaded guilty to filing two false individual income tax returns, the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced.

According to court documents, Wells failed to report approximately $900,000 in consulting income she earned during tax years 2006 and 2007.

The case was investigated by special agents of IRS-Criminal Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant Chief Karen Kelly of the Justice Department’s Tax Division.

Adean Wells pleaded guilty to filing false individual income tax returns (IRS Forms 1040) for tax years 2006 and 2007.

Senior U.S. District Judge Thomas Hogan scheduled the sentencing hearing for December 5, 2012. Wells faces a maximum potential sentence of three years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 for each count, and could be ordered to pay restitution to the IRS.

The guilty plea marks a significant blow to Wells, who will now face the consequences of her actions. Tax fraud cases like this one serve as a reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency in all financial dealings.

The U.S. government is cracking down on tax cheats, and cases like Wells’ will continue to be pursued to the fullest extent of the law. As Grimy Times continues to investigate and report on similar cases, one thing is clear: tax evasion will not be tolerated.
