A mother’s involvement in her sons’ fentanyl trafficking scheme has come to an end for Dorothy McCracken of Ambridge, Pennsylvania. The 60-year-old woman was sentenced to 36 months of federal probation for conspiring to distribute fentanyl, announced United States Attorney Scott W. Brady today.
The sentencing took place in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, with Judge Joy Flowers Conti handing down the verdict. As part of her sentence, McCracken is required to perform 300 hours of community service, a significant task for the convicted woman.
The investigation that led to McCracken’s conviction began in 2016 and involved the interception of wiretapped communications between her sons, Sam McCracken and Wayne McCracken. The wiretaps discovered that the brothers were obtaining large quantities of fentanyl between July and December 2016, with the illegal substances being stored at McCracken’s residence with her knowledge and consent.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States, working to ensure justice was served for the people of Pennsylvania. The investigation was a collaborative effort between various law enforcement agencies, including the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, Ambridge Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) led the investigation, which was comprised of members from multiple agencies including the Pennsylvania State Police. This federally administered task force supplies critical funding and coordination, allowing federal and state agencies to work together in identifying, investigating, and prosecuting major drug trafficking organizations.
Dorothy McCracken’s involvement in her sons’ fentanyl trafficking scheme has led to a 36-month federal probation sentence, with 300 hours of community service required as part of her punishment. Her case serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of being involved in illicit activities, and the importance of law enforcement collaboration in combating crime.
