Romone Allen, a 43-year-old Dover man, has been indicted for unlawfully possessing fentanyl, cocaine, and a handgun in a local hotel room. The indictment alleges that Allen, who has a history of prior convictions dating back to 2001, stored a loaded 9mm pistol and large quantities of fentanyl and cocaine in an open electronic safe. The discovery was made in a Dover hotel room that Allen was renting, where cash and a digital scale were also found.
Allen’s prior convictions include three serious drug offenses, which have led to him being charged as an armed career criminal. He faces one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.
If convicted, Allen could spend the rest of his life in prison, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years. The case was investigated by the FBI’s Delaware Violent Crime and Safe Streets Task Force and the Dover Police Department, with U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace, FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul, and Dover Police Department Chief Thomas Johnson, Jr. announcing the indictment.
The indictment is a result of a joint effort by federal and local law enforcement to crack down on drug trafficking and gun violence in the area. As the case moves forward, Allen is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
