Isiah Woodland, a 30-year-old Wilmington man, is in hot water for possessing a Polymer 80 handgun and twelve rounds of ammunition in February 2026. As a prohibited person under federal law, Woodland is not allowed to have firearms or ammo. The indictment comes after an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Wilmington Police Department (WPD).
The federal grand jury’s indictment charges Woodland with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. However, actual sentences are typically less than the maximum penalties, and a federal district court judge will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and making communities safer. The Department of Justice’s PSN brings together federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, prosecutors, and other public safety partners to coordinate efforts and address specific violent crime and public safety challenges.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace, Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer of the ATF, and Chief Wilfredo Campos of the WPD announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin B. Smith is prosecuting the case, which is a key component of Operation Take Back America.
