WILMINGTON, Del. – The District of Delaware’s U.S. Attorney David C. Weiss announced that Jordan Harmon, 25, from Dover, was handed a three-year sentence on April 15, 2024, for straw purchasing firearms.
According to court documents, Harmon, in 2020, defrauded a licensed firearms dealer in Delaware by purchasing 19 semi-automatic pistols. He falsely certified that the guns were for his use, when they were intended for others—a practice known as “straw purchasing.” To date, seven of the firearms have been recovered by law enforcement; efforts to retrieve the remainder continue.
U.S. Attorney Weiss emphasized the threat straw purchasing poses to public safety: “Purchasing guns for those who cannot legally do so is a menace to our communities. I commend the Dover Police Department and the ATF for their diligence in this investigation.” Harmon’s sentence serves as a stark warning to others contemplating similar actions.
The case against Harmon was a collaborative effort between the Dover Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Edmond Falgowski prosecuting the charges.
