HOUSTON – In a stunning revelation, Dr. Ethan Haim, 34, of Dallas, has been indicted for obtaining protected individual health information from Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) without authorization. The charges come after an extensive investigation by the FBI, led by Alamdar S. Hamdani.
Haim is accused of accessing personal patient data, including names, treatment codes, and attending physician details, from TCH’s electronic system. He stands charged with obtaining this information under false pretenses and with intent to cause malicious harm to the hospital. The case against Haim has been unsealed, and he is scheduled for his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Yvonne Y. Ho at 2 p.m.
According to the indictment, Haim was a resident at Baylor College of Medicine with previous rotations at TCH as part of his residency. In April 2023, he reportedly requested to reactivate his login access to TCH’s system to access pediatric patients not under his care. He is alleged to have obtained unauthorized access and later disclosed the information to a media contact.
Should Haim be convicted on all counts, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Assistant U.S Attorney Tina Ansari is handling the prosecution of this case.
An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty through due process of law.
