ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Guy Rosenschein, a 68-year-old pediatric surgeon from Albuquerque, has been handed a 17-plus-year sentence for distributing and possessing child pornography. According to the United States Attorney’s Office in New Mexico, Rosenschein pleaded guilty on October 15th to seven counts of distribution of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and one count of possession.
The investigation began in 2016 when Chatstep, an online chat provider, reported child sexual abuse material (CSAM) posted by a user in Albuquerque. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) forwarded the reports to the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office, leading to a search of Rosenschein’s residence, where investigators found numerous electronic devices containing CSAM.
Further investigation revealed a hidden room with a safe behind a false wall. Inside, agents discovered additional CSAM, totaling 19,116 images and 2,092 videos. The probe also implicated Rosenschein in several states across the U.S., where he allegedly sexually abused young boys while working as a pediatric surgeon.
United States Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez called Rosenschein’s actions “shameful and heinous,” emphasizing that such crimes cause ongoing harm to victims and encourage further exploitation of minors. New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez thanked all parties involved in holding Rosenschein accountable, noting the importance of this case as a reminder to the community of the potential danger even trusted individuals can pose.
Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen praised his detectives’ work on the case and their collaboration with the FBI. “This is a heartbreaking example of true evil lurking in our community,” he said, relieved that Rosenschein has been sentenced to prison. Upon release, Rosenschein will be subject to 10 years of supervised release.”
