Terrell Kelley, a 34-year-old New Orleans man, was sentenced to 97 months in prison for his role in a string of drug trafficking and firearms violations in the city. On August 20, 2020, Kelley was arrested after a standoff with New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) officers, who found him in possession of $10,000 in cash, a Glock pistol, and various narcotics, including crack, heroin, and Tramadol pills. The arrest was the first of three incidents that would ultimately lead to Kelley’s downfall.
On December 16, 2021, NOPD officers observed Kelley conducting multiple hand-to-hand narcotics transactions, and he was apprehended with evidence of the transactions, including crack, plastic baggies, and cash. Then, on February 3, 2023, Kelley was found to be in possession of a Glock nine-millimeter handgun, Tapentadol tablets, and $280 cash, all consistent with street-level narcotics distribution.
Kelley pleaded guilty to multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He was sentenced to 97 months in prison, ordered to pay a $600 mandatory special assessment fee, and will serve a six-year term of supervised release upon his release from imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) and the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Kelley’s sentence is a testament to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and firearms violations in the city.
