Drugs Sold Near Playgrounds, 2 Get Prison Time
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A disturbing trend of selling illicit substances has been brought to justice in Harrison County. Davina Bland, 22, of Clarksburg, was convicted of distributing cocaine base near a local playground.
Bland, a resident of Clarksburg, was found guilty of selling cocaine base near Clarksburg City Park – Monticello Avenue Playground. She faced charges of “Distribution of Cocaine Base within 1,000 feet of a Protected Location.”
Bland’s sentencing was held today, where she received a 33-month prison sentence. The case against Bland was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Montoro and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Morgan, on behalf of the government.
Meanwhile, another Clarksburg resident, Tyler Shay Romine, 24, was also sentenced for a similar crime. Romine sold buprenorphine, a prescription drug, near Clarksburg City Park – Stealy Park, a playground in Harrison County.
Romine, also a resident of Clarksburg, was found guilty of selling buprenorphine near a protected location, specifically within 1,000 feet of a playground. His case was also handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Montoro and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Morgan.
Romine received a 15-month prison sentence following his sentencing hearing today. The Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, led the investigation into the cases.
U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the sentencing hearings for both Bland and Romine. These convictions and sentences serve as a warning to those who would engage in such illicit activities, and a testament to the efforts of law enforcement in keeping our communities safe.
The cases against Bland and Romine are a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of holding those accountable for their crimes. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
