Dublin Meth Ring Torn Apart
Thirty defendants, including a 32-year-old Dublin resident, have been charged in connection with a massive methamphetamine-trafficking conspiracy in Laurens County, Georgia.
David Alex Monroe, 32, is one of the 30 defendants named in the indictment, which charges them with 56 felony counts, including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Monroe is currently in custody at the Laurens County Jail and faces a statutory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, up to life, if convicted. He is also charged with possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and other related offenses.
The indictment, unsealed in the Southern District of Georgia, alleges that the drug trafficking ring operated from at least January 2020 through January 2021 and involved the use of 77 firearms, including a machine gun.
Law enforcement officials say the investigation, dubbed Operation Monroe Doctrine, was a collaborative effort involving the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the DEA, and the ATF.
The defendants will face initial appearance hearings in the coming days, and all are currently in custody pending further court proceedings.
Other defendants named in the indictment include Jorge Hernandez-Pena, 45, of Atlanta, who is charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and Fredi Ramirez-Garcia, 42, who is currently in custody in the Dekalb County Jail in Decatur, Ga.
Christopher Forbes, 31, of Dublin, is also charged in the indictment, which includes 56 felony counts and forfeiture allegations listing 77 firearms, including a machine gun.
Acting U.S. Attorney David H. Estes praised the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, saying that their efforts have made the community safer by removing illegal drugs and firearms from the streets.
