OKLAHOMA CITY – In a stunning turn of events, Chad Wayne Kaspereit, 34, from Duncan, Oklahoma, has been convicted by a jury for possessing firearms while under victim protective orders. The charges came as the result of Kaspereit’s attempt to purchase two handguns despite being subject to protective orders.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester emphasized the severity of the offense. ‘This office aggressively enforces the federal prohibition against possessing a firearm while under an active victim protection order,’ said Troester. The trial saw evidence that Kaspereit made false statements on a federal form, claiming he was not subject to any protective orders when in reality, he was under multiple such orders.
The superseding indictment filed on March 19, 2019, detailed Kaspereit’s lies and illegal actions. He purchased a Taurus Judge .45 caliber revolver and a Taurus PT 738 .380 pistol from the Academy Store in Yukon, Oklahoma, using a false statement that he was not subject to a protective order. The jury heard how these firearms were used to threaten his ex-wife and second wife’s child.
Today, Kaspereit was found guilty on counts one and two of the indictment. He faces up to ten years in prison on each count, along with a fine of up to $250,000 per charge. Sentencing is scheduled for approximately ninety days from now.
