Butler, PA – In a move that highlights the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in the region, 43-year-old Dwayne Smallwood has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for conspiring to distribute, and distributing, fentanyl and heroin in Butler, Pennsylvania, between 2017 and 2020.
According to the sentencing order, Smallwood’s prison term will be followed by six years of supervised release. This harsh sentence is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in the area.
Smallwood’s criminal past caught up with him as he was previously convicted in Philadelphia on two occasions of committing crack cocaine trafficking crimes. He relocated to Butler and continued his involvement in the illicit drug trade, trafficking fentanyl and heroin as part of a Butler-based drug trafficking crew between 2017 and 2020.
Notably, Smallwood was on probation during part of that time as a result of separate convictions in Butler County for insurance fraud and crack possession.
Assistant United States Attorneys Yvonne M. Saadi and Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States. U.S. Attorney Cindy K. Chung commended the Pennsylvania State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Butler County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force for leading the investigation leading to the conviction and sentence in this case.
