Moline Man Sentenced to 72 Months in Prison for Attempted Receipt of Child Pornography

A Moline man, Dylan A. Campbell, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison for attempted receipt of child pornography.

Campbell, 30, of the 4000 block of 11th Avenue C, pleaded guilty to the indictment on January 11, 2023, which charged him with one count of attempted receipt of child pornography, according to the government’s commentary at sentencing.

According to the indictment, Campbell had been using various online means to obtain child pornography over multiple years. The government’s commentary at sentencing revealed that the imagery obtained by Campbell depicted the sexual abuse of toddlers and infants, highlighting the alarming nature of the case.

Campbell has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals since his change of plea in January 2023. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Springfield Field Office.

Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer L. Mathew represented the government at sentencing.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the U.S. government to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Campbell’s sentence will be followed by 15 years of supervised release after serving his 72-month prison term. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the public from those who would seek to exploit and harm children.
