Eagle Butte Man Sentenced for Aggravated Child Abuse

In a shocking case of child abuse, Frank Duane Baker, Jr., a 42-year-old Eagle Butte man, has been sentenced to 132 months in custody for his heinous crimes.

Baker was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child after a federal grand jury indicted him on several counts in May 2014. He pleaded guilty to one count of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child on July 14, 2014.

The abuse occurred between June 1, 1995, and August 31, 1996, when Baker was providing babysitting services to the victim. During this time, he repeatedly sexually assaulted a female child who was under the age of 12 years old.

The investigation into Baker’s crimes was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case, bringing Baker to justice for his egregious actions.

On November 3, 2014, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down the sentence, also imposing five years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Baker was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence, bringing an end to a long and painful ordeal for the victim and her family.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting our children from predators like Baker, who prey on the most vulnerable members of our society.
