South Bend Man Sentenced to 60 Months in Prison for Fentanyl Distribution
SOUTH BEND – A South Bend man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a fentanyl distribution ring. Earl Mines, 37 years old, was sentenced to 60 months in prison followed by 4 years of supervised release for distributing nearly 100 grams of a substance containing fentanyl.
According to documents in the case, in July 2024, Mines sold nearly 100 grams of a substance containing fentanyl. This occurred while Mines was on federal supervised release following his conviction for possessing with intent to distribute heroin, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, and for possessing a stolen firearm.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Administration, including the DEA North Central Laboratory, with assistance from the Indiana State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joseph P. Falvey.
This case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States by using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.
Mines pleaded guilty to distribution of fentanyl, a serious federal crime. His sentence reflects the severity of the offense and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
