East Lyme resident CHRISTOPHER STEVENS, 25, has pleaded guilty to distributing heroin in a case tied to a fatal overdose. According to U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly and DEA Special Agent Michael J. Ferguson, the incident is part of a broader effort targeting drug dealers in Connecticut.
Court documents reveal that on June 4, 2016, police found a deceased 25-year-old male slumped over in his car in East Lyme with a child in the rear seat. The victim was later determined to have died from acute heroin and fentanyl toxicities.
STEVENS is accused of meeting the victim at his residence before the overdose occurred. He provided the heroin that led to the fatality. The distribution charge against him carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Scheduled for sentencing on April 12, 2017, before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, STEVENS will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jennifer P. Laraia and Michael E. Runowicz. The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Tactical Diversion Squad, with assistance from the East Lyme Police Department, is investigating the case.
This grim incident highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Connecticut, where dealers like STEVENS continue to put lives at risk. As the investigation into this tragic event continues, law enforcement agencies remain committed to curbing the spread of dangerous drugs and protecting communities from harm.
