Defendant Pleads Guilty to Federal Oxycodone Crime
In a shocking turn of events, a Greenbrier County man has pleaded guilty to a federal drug crime. Edgar Crislip, 48, of Ronceverte, entered his guilty plea to distribution of oxycodone in a Charleston court.
Crislip admitted that on November 30, 2015, he distributed oxycodone pills to a confidential informant in Ronceverte. He further admitted that he sold oxycodone pills on three other occasions, bringing the total count of distribution to four.
According to officials, the investigation was conducted by the Greenbrier Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney John File is handling the prosecution. The plea hearing was held before United States District Judge Irene C. Berger.
The case is part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of pills and heroin in communities across the Southern District.
Crislip faces up to 20 years in federal prison when he is sentenced on October 5, 2016. As the community continues to reel from the effects of the opioid epidemic, this guilty plea serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in illegal activities.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is urging communities to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Together, we can work towards a safer and healthier community for everyone. Follow us on Twitter for the latest updates on this case and others like it: @SDWVNews.
