Former Edmond property manager, ANGELA RENEE RENEAU, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange for wire fraud and failing to file a tax return. The Oklahoma City resident will also pay $386,236.27 in restitution to her former clients and an additional $137,352 to the IRS.
Reneau, who operated Reneau Properties, LLC, pleaded guilty on November 22, 2016, admitting she siphoned off rental income from clients between 2010 and 2014 for personal expenses. She transferred $11,000 from a client’s account without authorization, using the funds for herself.
The FBI and IRS Criminal Investigations division cracked down on Reneau’s scheme, leading to her prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Maxfield Green. Following her prison term, Reneau is expected to serve three years of supervised release.
During her plea, Reneau confessed to unauthorized transfers of clients’ rental income, which she used for her personal gain, and willfully failing to file a federal tax return for 2014. The sentence was announced by Mark A. Yancey, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma.
This case serves as a harsh reminder of the consequences of financial misconduct in the property management industry. Reneau’s actions not only defrauded her clients but also led to significant tax evasion, marking a serious breach of trust.
