Leominster Man Flees from ICE Agents, Suffers Consequences
Eduardo Alvarez, a 32-year-old Mexican man residing in Leominster, Massachusetts, has been sentenced to one year in prison for his role in a brazen attempt to evade arrest by ICE agents. Alvarez pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry after deportation and one count of forcibly assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal officer engaged in the performance of official duties.
According to court documents, on February 16, 2022, ICE officers traveled to a residence in Leominster where Alvarez was reportedly located. They followed Alvarez’s white Audi as he drove away from the residence and attempted to pull him over by activating lights and sirens. However, Alvarez accelerated and struck the front vehicle, with the ICE officer still in the driver’s seat, before driving off into oncoming traffic.
Alvarez’s reckless actions forced other vehicles, including law enforcement, onto the side of the road. He eventually stopped at his own residence, where he attempted to hide from officers for approximately 90 minutes before surrendering.
Alvarez’s history of immigration-related offenses includes two previous removals from the United States, in 2009 and 2011. He was also convicted of illegal reentry into the United States in 2010.
U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Mark G. Mastroianni handed down the sentence. Alvarez will also serve one year of supervised release following his prison term. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen Noto.
Alvarez’s sentence serves as a stern warning to individuals who attempt to evade the law and disregard the rights of federal agents.
