Newtonville Resident Pleads Guilty to Tax Offense
BOSTON, MA – In a shocking turn of events, 43-year-old Patrick S. Kityo, a Certified Nurse Assistant and owner of Every Step Home Care Inc., has agreed to plead guilty to aiding the preparation of a false tax return. This disturbing development was announced by Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Harry Chavis, Jr., Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation in Boston.
According to the charging documents, Kityo owned and operated Every Step Home Care Inc., a home health care company with a reported gross income of at least $2 million in 2016 and 2017. However, the defendant allegedly failed to report all of the company’s gross receipts to his tax preparer, instead only reporting those deposited into the company’s business bank account. This egregious act resulted in the underreporting of nearly $2 million in gross receipts and a failure to pay at least $306,603 in personal income taxes.
Kityo is facing a charge of aiding the preparation of a false tax return, which provides for a sentence of up to three years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.
The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
Every Step Home Care Inc., a home health care company owned by Kityo, allegedly failed to report its true income, leading to the accused underreporting nearly $2 million in gross receipts and Kityo’s failure to pay at least $306,603 in personal income taxes.
Kityo, a resident of Newtonville, is expected to appear in court for a plea hearing, although no date has been scheduled.
This case is a stark reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency in financial dealings. The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James R. Drabick of the Securities, Financial & Cyber Fraud Unit is prosecuting the case.
