Edwin Ferrer, Unlawful Possession of Firearm, New York 2015

A 42-year-old Schenectady man has been accused of unlawfully possessing a firearm and ammunition. Edwin Ferrer, a convicted felon, allegedly possessed a Smith & Wesson Model 41, .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol, with a defaced serial number, and six rounds of ammunition on December 18, 2015.

The charge against Ferrer carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to three years. The charge filed against Ferrer is merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Ferrer was arraigned today in Albany before United States Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel, and detained pending a trial scheduled for May 9, 2016 in Syracuse before United States District Judge Frederick J. Scullin, Jr.

This case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) New York Field Division and the Schenectady Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss.

The indictment alleges that Ferrer possessed a firearm and ammunition, which is a serious offense. The ATF and the Schenectady Police Department are working together to bring Ferrer to justice.

Ferrer’s trial is scheduled for May 9, 2016, in Syracuse. The outcome of the trial will determine Ferrer’s sentence and whether he will be found guilty of the charges against him.
