Alexander Fitwi, Gun Trafficking, Nevada 2024

Eight Las Vegas residents are behind bars after a sweeping federal crackdown on drug and gun trafficking in the city’s most violent corridors. Alexander Fitwi, 32, Durrell Melchor, 33, Prentice Moreland, 55, Ozzie Morrison, 33, Antione Thomas, 39, Shaquille Thomas, 29, Donald Williams, 34, and another suspect were arrested following a multi-agency takedown dubbed ‘Operation Nora,’ targeting the Sherwood Forest and Naked City neighborhoods.

The indictments, unsealed June 30, 2020, allege the group distributed nearly 2.5 pounds of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and crack cocaine while illegally trading firearms. Authorities seized 30 guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, 50 grams of heroin, 117 grams of meth, 492 grams of cocaine, and 446 grams of crack. The stash reflects a pipeline feeding both addiction and violence in underserved parts of the city.

Four of the defendants — Alexander Fitwi, Durrell Melchor, Prentice Moreland, and Antione Thomas — are convicted felons who illegally possessed semi-automatic handguns and rifles. Federal law bars them from gun ownership, yet they moved weapons freely through underground networks. Melchor and Morrison are also charged with dealing firearms without a license, a violation that fuels the black market for crime guns.

Charges carry staggering penalties. Prentice Moreland faces up to 210 years in prison and a $22,250,000 fine for distributing cocaine and crack and possessing a firearm as a felon. Durrell Melchor could get 45 years and $1,750,000 in fines on five counts, including drug conspiracy and illegal firearm dealing. Alexander Fitwi faces 20 years and a $500,000 fine on two counts of felon in possession.

‘Operation Nora exemplifies the kind of impactful multi-defendant prosecutions that play a critical role in our office’s strategy to reduce violent crime in our communities,’ said U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Trutanich. ATF Special Agent in Charge Patrick Gorman emphasized the danger of trafficking guns to gangs and drug organizations: ‘ATF remains dedicated to making this city a safer place.’

Las Vegas Metro Sheriff Joseph Lombardo called the bust a ‘major win for law enforcement,’ crediting joint efforts with ATF and federal prosecutors. The operation highlights how coordinated raids, intelligence sharing, and federal charges are being used to dismantle entrenched criminal networks. For now, the streets have 30 fewer guns and a dent has been made in the supply chain — but the war for control of Las Vegas’s shadows is far from over.
