Jose Antonio Lario Salmeron, a 33-year-old El Salvadoran national, is facing the music for sneaking back into the U.S. after a 2020 deportation. The feds nabbed him in St. Tammany Parish on March 30, 2026, and slapped him with a charge of reentry of a removed alien.
According to court docs, Salmeron had been previously booted out of the country on January 13, 2020, but managed to slip back in without proper clearance. The U.S. Border Patrol led the investigation, which is part of a larger effort dubbed Operation Take Back America.
U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle is handling the case, which could land Salmeron up to two years in the slammer, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
The feds are cracking down on immigration crimes as part of a nationwide initiative to take back control of the country’s borders and protect communities from violent crime.
