Hartford Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing Oxycodone from New Britain Grocery Store

Eliezer Perez, 42, of Hartford, was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for distributing oxycodone from Elzier Grocery in New Britain, Connecticut.

Perez pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, oxycodone on August 3, 2021. He was arrested on December 12, 2020, and has been detained since then.

According to court documents, investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad and the New Britain Police Department began investigating individuals selling oxycodone pills from Elzier Grocery in the summer of 2019. Between July and December 2019, they made multiple controlled purchases of oxycodone pills from Perez and others at the store.

On February 26, 2020, authorities conducted searches of Elzier Grocery and a nearby residence, revealing more than 1000 oxycodone pills, drug packaging materials, drug ledgers, and approximately $10,000 in cash.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad and the New Britain Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John T. Pierpont, Jr.

Perez’s sentencing has been scheduled for August 3, 2021. He faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.
