Defendant Pleads Guilty to Murder, Racketeering in Bronx Gang Case
A member of the notorious Taylor Avenue Crew, Elijah Davila, pleaded guilty to murder, racketeering and narcotics conspiracies in a Bronx courtroom yesterday. Davila, also known as “Montana,” faces a mandatory minimum term of 40 years in prison and a maximum term of life in prison.
According to prosecutors, Davila was a key player in the Taylor Avenue Crew, a violent street gang that wreaked havoc in the Bronx neighborhood. The gang, also known as the Bugatti, sold drugs and committed acts of violence, including murder and attempted murder, against rival gang members, drug traffickers, and innocent bystanders.
As part of his guilty plea, Davila admitted to shooting and killing Pablo Beard on March 3, 2015, in the vicinity of 1504 Leland Avenue in the Bronx. The murder was one of several violent acts committed by the Taylor Avenue Crew during their reign of terror in the Bronx.
Manhattan Acting U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim praised the work of the New York City Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Homeland Security Investigations in bringing the case to justice. He also thanked the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office for their participation and support.
The case is being handled by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit, with Assistant United States Attorneys Scott Hartman, Jessica Lonergan, and Jason Swergold leading the prosecution.
The sentencing hearing for Davila is set for July 13, 2017, before United States District Judge Katherine Polk Failla.
