Jeremy Mack, Human Trafficking, Ohio 2013

Elyria, OH – A ruthless Ohio man was handed a life sentence after being convicted of forcing four women, including a 16-year-old girl, into sex trafficking. Jeremy Mack, 38, of Elyria, was found guilty by a jury in February on nine counts, including human trafficking, drug crimes and obstruction of justice.

Mack’s reign of terror began in December 2012 when he conspired with Ashley Onysko, 24, to provide heroin or cocaine to the four victims. After they incurred drug debts, Mack and Onysko used force, threats, fraud, and coercion to compel them into commercial sex acts. They even posted photographs of the females on backpage.com to entice customers.

On March 9, 2013, a 16-year-old girl was lured to Mack’s residence by a promise of drugs. After she arrived, Mack supplied her with cocaine and coerced her into engaging in commercial sex acts, keeping all the proceeds for himself.

Mack also intimidated one of his victims with a firearm, choking and threatening her life. The investigation revealed that he had orchestrated a complex web of exploitation, drug trafficking, and sex for money.

United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach called Mack’s actions “offensive to everything this community and this country stand for.” Special Agent in Charge Stephen D. Anthony of the FBI emphasized the despicability of forcing children into a world of drugs and sex. Elyria Police Chief Duane Whitely praised the collaborative efforts between local police and federal law enforcement.

Onysko, who previously pleaded guilty to her role in the conspiracy, was sentenced to 30 months in prison. Assistant United States Attorneys Bridget M. Brennan and Carole Skutnik are prosecuting this case following an investigation by the FBI and Elyria Police Department.
